CBI chief Alok Verma, his deputy Rakesh Asthana and several other officers have been sent on leave in an extraordinary coda to a battle within the country's top investigating agency. M Nageshwar Rao took over as interim director very early on Wednesday, hours after a late-night government order which will be challenged by Alok Verma in the Supreme Court.
